Petroleum Engineers: Nigeria Must Take Proactive Steps to Hit 2030 Oil Target.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has warned that Nigeria must adopt strategic, forward-looking measures to reach its goal of 2.7 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil production by 2030. Speaking to the press in Lagos on July 31 ahead of SPENAICE 2025, Dr. Amina Danmiani, Chair of the SPE Nigeria Council, highlighted four critical focus areas:
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR): Employ advanced tertiary techniques—like CO₂ injection and chemical flooding—to maximise output from mature fields.
Pipeline Security: Bolster surveillance, rapid-response repair teams, and local partnerships to stem vandalism and losses.
Gas Monetisation: Accelerate gas-to-liquids projects, expand domestic grids, and incentivise downstream use to diversify revenue and curb flaring.
Infrastructure Reliability: Invest in modern refineries, storage, and transport networks, backed by robust maintenance regimes to minimise downtime.
“SPENAICE 2025 will convene engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders to address these challenges head-on,” Dr. Danmiani said. She also reaffirmed SPE’s commitment to closing knowledge gaps and empowering young Nigerian professionals.
The conference runs from August 4–6 in Lagos, featuring technical sessions, workshops, and panel discussions aimed at charting a course toward Nigeria’s 2030 production milestone and a more resilient energy future.
